The Golf Club of New Jersey's handicap program is run in conjunction with the USGA GHIN system and the NJSGA. This memberships allow our members to play in many events they host as well.

The benefits of having your handicap with The Golf Club of New Jersey are that we will post your tournament scores automatically and you may report your scores from any round via the internet rather than having to drive to your local course.

Scores To Post

If 13 or more holes are played, the player shall post an 18-hole score. If 7 to 12 holes are played, the player shall post a nine-hole score.

Scores from all courses with USGA Course and Slope Ratings made during their active seasons, both at home and away, shall be posted by the player along with the appropriate USGA Course Ratings and USGA Slope Ratings.

Scores in both match play and stroke play shall be posted for handicap purposes. This includes scores made in match play, multi-ball or team competitions in which players have not completed one or more holes or in which players are requested to pick up when out of contention on a hole. (See Section 4, USGA Handicap System 2002-2005)

Scores must be made in accordance with the principles of the Rules of Golf.

Disqualification - A player who is disqualified from a competition, but has an acceptable score, shall record his adjusted gross score for handicap purposes. For example, a player who is disqualified from a competition for failure to sign his scorecard has an acceptable score for handicap purposes.

Unacceptable Scores

When fewer than seven holes are played.

When made on a golf course in an area in which an inactive season established by the authorized golf association is in effect.

When a majority of the holes are not played in accordance with the principles of the Rules of Golf.

When the length of the course is less than 3,000 yards for 18 holes.

When, as a condition of the competition, the maximum number of clubs allowed is less than 14, or types of clubs are limited as, for example, in a competition that allows only iron clubs.

When scores are made on a course with no USGA Course or Slope Rating.

When a player carries or uses non-conforming clubs or uses non-conforming balls.

When artificial devices (as defined under Rule 14-3) are used during the execution of a stroke.

Posting Scores

All hole-by-hole scores must be adjusted using Equitable Stroke Control. (Use the chart below to adjust your hole-by-hole scores.)

Where to Post Scores

Post Where You Play! – This is the preferred method for score posting.

Most Clubs have a computer for posting scores available in the locker rooms or pro shop.

If your club’s handicap committee allows the posting of scores over the Internet, you can post your adjusted scores at www.njsga.org or www.ghin.com

Where to View Your Revised Handicap

ERevision – The most convenient way to get your revised handicap! – provide your email address to your handicap chairperson or go to www.ghin.com and enter your email under the Email Addresses link, and every Friday of a new revision you will have your updated handicap index and most recent twenty scores sent to you in an email.

Internet Handicap Lookup – At your home or work computer you can go to either www.njsga.org or www.ghin.com and click on the Handicap Lookup link to see your latest handicap index and most recent scores.
